Ebay madness January 30, 2005

Filed under: Uncategorized — Mark @ 2:59 am

I have 29 auctions in progress on Ebay. Scarves, clothes and books. I’m pretty sure Mark thinks I’ve gotten a bit carried away … OK, a lot carried away.

I managed to sell all his Wired magazines for $100 including postage to Canberra, which (I think) is pretty impressive - particularly given that the alternative was the recycle bin - and now I’m determined to rid our house of all detritus to get money to buy more detritus. And it’s kind of cool to list something for $1 and sell it for $20.

I do think I probably have too many auctions on, though. They won’t all end together and I don’t really expect everything to sell, but if even half of it all sells I’m going to have a bit of a task keeping track of who’s won what, who’s paid for what and what’s going where and to whom.

I think, once my current auctions are done, I’ll limit myself to no more than 6 or 8 at a time in future. That’s much more manageable and also prolongs the fun. I could be auctioning stuff for months yet!

One good thing about auctioning off our goods and chattels on Ebay is that the time I’m spending listing stuff and watching the auctions is time I’m not spending looking for stuff to buy, watching those auctions, bidding on them, winning them and then waiting with bated breath for the stuff arrive. The great trap of Ebay is that everything seems like a bargain - even when the price goes above retail.

I’m getting over the excitment of buying on Ebay a bit now anyway. The yarn stash is starting to look intimidating and Finn’s winter wardrobe is well underway, so there’s not all that much I really want there for the moment. Of course, that’s until I have another bright idea about something that might be ‘nice’ to have…

Fark!! Awake…

Filed under: Uncategorized — Mark @ 2:37 am

at 2.30am is not good.

It might have been the comings and goings across the road that did it. I miss the days when that house was still being built. Who pulls up and honks their horn at 1am??

It might have been Indi shaking her head constantly. I cleaned her ears this afternoon and it must have stirred something up. I got up and gave them a wipe out which seems to have fixed it.

But then I was still awake and listening to Em licking. Lick … lick … lick … lick … So I decided that she & I should get up.

Em’s gone off to sleep on a couch and I’m sitting in front of the computer being all awake and grumpy.

Birthday wrapup January 29, 2005

Filed under: Uncategorized — Mark @ 10:47 am

I’m not a big fan of my birthday. I like to mark the day (which is why I always organise a day off work for it and buy myself a present), but I’m really not interested in celebrating as such. I might think about it for next year, though - we’ll see.

So what did I do for my birthday? I went shopping with The Mavis. Shopping is something we do well together and it’s been a while since we’ve been off on our own. We went to DFO and she bought me 5 tops and lunch for my birthday. It was a lovely outing, in spite of the fact that the centre’s airconditioning was almost non-existant.

Wandering around an un-airconned shopping centre with a 77 year old woman on a 30 something degree day has it’s moments, but she did very well. I think I was probably a bit more wobbly from the heat than she was. It must be all the lawn bowls she plays these days.

I also bought myself a nice little black cardi for work and some tshirts and found Foozley’s first sandals.

Then I trundled back across the bridge to takeaway chook for dinner and the Cabaret dvd on the telly.

Pretty good, really.

I’ve been meaning to post a picture of my yarn collection for a while.

And here it is

The whole catastrophe

Happy Birthday to ME !!!

Filed under: Uncategorized — Mark @ 9:02 am

Today is my 39th birthday. That’s one shy of 40.

This is, in fact, my 40th year. At the end of it I will be 40 years old.

Now that I’ve got that out of the way, here’s what Mark & Finn gave me for my birthday this morning:

From Mark & Finn

I also got a new garden fork last week. It replaced the old cheapy that I had bent one of the tines (tynes?) on.

I always buy myself a present too:

There are better photos of the needles here.

Questions … questions … January 25, 2005

What brings you a simple feeling of happiness?
Settling into bed at the end of a good day when I’m a good kind of tired, rather than a knackered kind of tired.

What about your life now is as you planned or imagined when you were sixteen years old?
Absolutely Nothing - except perhaps for having puppies and pusscats.

What have you achieved that you never imagined you would?
Foozley. Up until 3 or 4 years ago I was never ever having children.

Not again January 20, 2005

I was sick on and off for almost 3 weeks after Christmas with a cold/sinus infection/ear infection.

Since the weekend I’ve been feeling pretty good - even healthy.

This morning I woke up with a sore throat. WTF!

I still feel reasonably healthy so I’m going to pretend that it isn’t going develop into anything worse. Maybe if I ignore it’ll go away.

Reasons to be grateful January 19, 2005

Today is one of those relatively rare days when I am aware that in many ways I’ve had a pretty charmed life and have a great deal to be happy about.

Just thought it was worth noting because by tomorrow I may have forgotten.

Such pretty, pretty things

The Metropolitan Museum of Art shop at Melbourne Central.

If anybody ever wants to buy me a gift, pretty much anything from there would be perfect.

Things like this, this, this, or this.

Haircut

Filed under: Uncategorized — Mark @ 10:11 am

I decided that I hated my hair style. It just didn’t work.

So yesterday I got it cut off. I now have short(ish) hair.

No, there will be no photos.
