Indi does some of the swimming June 14, 2005

Lest my previous entry gave the impression that she was lazy, I thought I should post some photos of Indi getting the ball.

Indi will swim out for the ball if it’s fairly close in.

Unlike Indi, Em waits respectfully for her to drop the ball before trying to grab it.

Tuesdays at the beach

We took the opportunity to take the girls to the beach again today and we remembered the camera this time.

There was chasing the ball up and down the road in front of the fishing shacks

And lots of swimming

Indi often lets Em do all the hard work

Cat on a warm tile roof

Filed under: Uncategorized — Mark @ 1:31 pm

At this time of year, and in the middle of summer, I worry about our neighbour’s cat, Fruity.

Fruity is a 100% outdoor cat. He’s never allowed inside and really seems to live in our front yard most of the time. In the extremes of the weather he does it tough. Recently he’s spent most of every day sleeping under the tea tree in front of our bedroom.

He wasn’t there today and I wondered where he’d find a dry spot after last night’s rain. A little while ago I happened to look out the ensuite window and my question was answered.

Jingle jangle head June 10, 2005

Filed under: The thing in my head — Mark @ 11:17 am

Well today seems like a better day than yesterday, but things are still not great.

The tinnitus is very loud and jangly and it seems to react to environmental sound, rising and falling in response to voices, mechanical noises, the windchime outside.

My head feels not quite attached to my body and ever time I move it feels a little like it might float away - a very weird sensation.

The good news is that the nausea pill worked this morning and breakfast has stayed put. I’ve also killed the headache.

I suspect that my neck is actually to blame for a lot of this. I’m wondering if the trip to the hairdresser put something out of whack. I’m seeing my chiropractor this afternoon so it’ll be interesting to see what he has to say. He doesn’t know about the tumour yet because he was on holidays when I found out about it.

The price June 9, 2005

Filed under: The thing in my head — Mark @ 3:38 pm

It seems that the price for yesterday’s out and about-ness is feeling crappy today, culminating in the recent loss of my lunch (and possibly breakfast too).

I don’t regret pushing the envelope a bit yesterday, though, because that’s the only way I know where the limits are.

And the way I feel today is a reminder that this was a Big Thing, which is probably worth remembering.

Big Day Out June 8, 2005

We trundled off into the city this morning so that I could get my hair cut.

Matt at Millenium in Melbourne Central did a great job. Poor boy looked a bit daunted when he saw the shaved bit, but I think he met the challenge. It’ll be interesting to see what happens when I try to replicate what he’s done.

After that there was some shopping and lunch before heading home absolutely pooped and with my head buzzing.

It was my biggest expedition so far and I suspect I overdid things a little, but I enjoyed being out and about. I enjoyed coming home a bit more, though.

The puppy farm owner isn’t going to co-operate

Filed under: Uncategorized — Mark @ 8:22 am

I just saw this thread on the Dogz forum.

It seems that the puppy farm owner, veterinarian and former MP Ron Wells, is not going to release his dogs to rescue. Apart, that is, from whatever dogs are left on site when the place closes, which will be only those he can’t make a buck from any more. So, the large rescue isn’t going to happen now. Whatever effort there will be will be small.

I wish this surprised me, but it doesn’t. These dogs are simply part of the production line for the cute fluffies we see in pet shops. Their owner really doesn’t care for their wellbeing. It sucks, but they’re his dogs and he can do as he wishes with them.

Thank you to the people who offered to help with knitting and stuff. I’m going to donate the jumpers I’ve knitted so far and the other stuff I’ve gathered to one of the rescue groups that were involved. There are still puppies out there that will need jumpers.

Lovely day for it June 7, 2005

Filed under: Uncategorized — Mark @ 6:08 pm

We took the dogs to the beach at Avalon this morning and it was lovely. Not that Avalon is ever actually ‘lovely’, but it was a lovely morning down there. Really still and clear and bright. I wished I had the camera with me - but, of course, I didn’t.

The girls had a lovely time getting a ‘bath’ in the sea water and chasing the ball. Indi found something to roll in, which fortunately got washed off while competing with Em for the ball in the water.

The best part was having 2 tired, happy, dogs at home afterwards.

Em’s never worn a jumper before and didn’t quite know what to do with herself with it on

Although this pattern uses a lot of yarn - 3 balls knitted together - it knits up so quickly, and in the large size that I wanted to focus on, that I think I’ll stick with it. It’s also a great way to use up the large amount of cheap yellow acrylic stuff I ended up with.
