Bugger! September 30, 2005

Filed under: Uncategorized — Mark @ 4:09 pm

I stayed home from work today because I woke up with a crashing headache. As the day’s gone on it’s mostly gone away, but I’m starting to think that whatever bug got Mark has got me too. I’m feeling progressively crappier as the day goes on.

Really don’t feel like being sick at the moment. I have too many things that I want to be doing.

A Handy Bit of Serendipity September 29, 2005

I’ve thought for a while that the PuppyDeluxe & I needed some professional help to get her head straight again and put her on track to being the flyballer I reckon she could be. The difficulty with getting professional help in this area, as in so many others, is that I prefer to do so based on personal recommendations, rather than sticking a pin in the phone book and I don’t know anyone who has used a professional dog trainer/behaviourist.

I’ve seen lots & lots of good things said about this guy on the dogs forum that I read and would be happy to go see him, but there’s one problem. He’s in Sydney. As important as sorting the PuppyDeluxe out is to me, there’s no way I’m going to Sydney to do it.

Well the good news is that I don’t have to head up the Hume. He’s coming to Melbourne. In November. While I’m on leave. On a weekday. When Finn will be at childcare.

He’s doing a full day (6 hours) workshop at Beaconsfield and the PuppyDeluxe & I are going.

One workshop obviously isn’t going to make everything rosey, but it should give me the pointers I need to start to fix the things I’ve stuffed up and bring us that one step closer to a happy flyballing PuppyDeluxe.

Of Teaching Rounds & Holidays

Filed under: Uncategorized — Mark @ 11:15 am

Mark’s last teaching round was a bit of a grind for both of us. In spite of the help we got from David, Judy & Rad, the upheaval of the changed routine and so on had us both absolutely whacked by the end of it.

So I’ve booked 3 weeks leave for Mark’s next round in November. And I’m really, really looking forward to it.

I’ll have 3 days a week of ‘nicky time’ while Finn’s at child care and 2 days a week of ‘foozle time’, neither of which I get very often. And I can keep the house running and let Mark concentrate on the teaching stuff. AND - best of all - I’ll be away from work for a whole 3 weeks!!

Only 6 weeks to go till then too. This is very exciting.

Fade In, Fade Out September 28, 2005

I’ve lost today’s groove and I think I’ll be skiving off outta here as soon as I can.

Don’t know whether it’s me or the job or a combination of both, but I find it hard to put together more than a few hours of focussed effort these days. Every day involves fairly long periods of gazing blankly out the window or at the screen just day dreaming.

I have a vague memory of times when I used to put in fairly intense days and get enjoyment out of them. Or maybe I just imagined that. Whichever, it’s the way I would like to work.

I think the problem may be the ridiculously cheap yarn at Lincraft that’s calling me…

A Cunning Hat September 27, 2005

Well, I finished the Jayne Cobb hat tonight. It turned out pretty well, I think.

It’s larger than I think it’s supposed to be. But I think it measures up OK against the real McCoy.

Jayne Hat with Gusto September 26, 2005

Filed under: Knitting — Mark @ 4:17 pm

I bought some Gusto 10 at lunchtime to try for the Jayne hat.

I’m not certain the colours are quite right, but it’s a bit hard to tell what the colours really are in the pictures available online.

I might have to watch that episode of Firefly again to check it out.

Ripping it up

Filed under: Gardening — Mark @ 3:53 pm

To the uninitiated it wouldn’t look like it, but our backyard is greatly improved after the weekend. It actually looks a bit like someone lives in our house. There’s still a little to do to make it tidy looking (a bit of pruning, a few more weeds to remove) and a lot to do to make it bewdifool, but that all seems much more doable now that worst of the weeds and crap are gone.

One of the exciting things about cleaning up the yard is that it’s now feasible that we could get some chooks. I’m not a fan of birds, but I’d really like a couple of fat & happy chooks strolling around the yard, eating weeds and bugs and popping out a few eggs to earn their keep. We’ve found a pretty good deal on a taj mahal of a chook house which can be delivered and assembled for not much more that it would cost us to build our own and way less hassle. The only thing we need to do is put some concrete down for it to sit on.

I’m very excited about chooks!

Jayne, Jayne, The Man They Call … September 23, 2005

I’ve found a pattern for a Jayne hat here via here.

I don’t think I’ll get one done for Mark in the next week but there will be a Jayne hat in his future, though. And probably one in Foozley’s as well.

Red Shoes September 22, 2005

In the midst of a minor spending frenzy at lunchtime today I came upon some Campers on sale. They were just my size, terribly cute and red, so I had to have them.

Clapotis for The Mavis

Filed under: Knitting — Mark @ 9:12 pm

I finished The Mavis’ Clapotis tonight and, if I do say so myself, it’s turned out really well.

Oatmeal clapotis 3

It’s a bit ‘oatmeal-ish’, but I don’t think that will bother her.
