So farking tired September 2, 2006

I was up relatively early this morning, simply because I was awake. I didn’t want to be, but I was.

I had a rush of blood to the head while Mark and Finn were still sleeping and took the covers off the blue couch’s cushions and washed them. The grand plan was to make the most of the warm day and take to the rest of the couch with the steam cleaner.

We took Finn to the doctor (just to be sure) and did some bits and pieces of necessary shopping. When we got home Finn and Mark headed off for sleeps. I was going to do the same, but after waiting ages for Finn to stop demolishing his room and settle down, I decided that I was too restless to snooze, so I headed out into the garden to take care of some little jobs.

I cleaned up various kinds of poo, turned over compost, fed the plants with seaweed concentrate and put bird netting over my vegies. That doesn’t sound like a lot, but it felt like it and I’m stuffed.

I’ve brought the cushion covers in off the line but haven’t gone anywhere near the couch with the steam cleaner. It’s not going to happen today, so I’ll have to wrestle the covers back onto the cushions and leave the rest of the job for another day. There’ll be another warm day soon enough, I’m sure.

I have my fingers crossed that everyone sleeps through tonight and we can start tomorrow rested and ready to face my family for Rhonda’s birthday afternoon tea.

How to scare me part 2

See this.

That brief period where Finn couldn’t breathe and wouldn’t agree to use his puffer had me a wee bit worried.

How to scare me part 1

Yesterday the cats were nagging constantly to be let out, as they do when the weather’s good. I was feeling so crappy that I gave in just for some peace and quiet. On days like yesterday the pusscats take off as soon as they get out and I don’t see them again until the end of the day.

When Mark got home he took me to see my chiropractor (who worked miracles) and we didn’t get back from North Melbourne until about 6.30 or so. Cosmo was waiting for us in the driveway, but there was no sign of Zelda. Normally I would have expected her to be waiting for us inside, but sometimes she’s engaged in serious cat business and takes a few minutes to grace us with her presence.

I called her a couple of times and, when she didn’t appear, I fed Cosmo on his own and saw to the dogs and the chooks. We had our dinner and there was still no sign of her. By this stage we’d been home half an hour to an hour and there’s been only one other time when Zelda has not appeared within this long. I was tempted to roam up and down the street calling her but I knew that wouldn’t make her come home any quicker. Zelda being Zelda, she would come home when she was ready.

I sat down to watch telly while Mark did the bedtime shuffle with Finn, but I couldn’t help worrying about what might have happened. The early warm weather would have the snakes out and about and we’re only just shy of a year since Zelda was bitten. Once Finn was in bed Mark came and sat with me.

Then, out of the blue, Zelda appeared on the couch, looking for a lap to sit on. She’d come in through the top of the cat run and we hadn’t even heard the cat door close. I fed her and she came and settled on my lap. She fell asleep instantly, so she must have had a busy kind of day.

This morning she was nagging again and I wasn’t going to let her out, but she snuck out when I opened the door for the dogs. I dare say we’ll go through the same routine tonight.

Migraine September 1, 2006

Filed under: Uncategorized — Mark @ 8:25 am

As I rolled over in bed this morning and opened my eyes the first thing I noticed was blurred vision down the left side. No! It couldn’t be! I blinked a couple of times but it was still there. I wake up and the first thing I notice is that I’m getting a migraine. How rude!

I got up, fed critters, ate breakfast and said hello to Mark & Finn straight away since I had about half an hour before I got hit in the head with a sledge hammer. I also took some painkillers and an antihistamine, which should stop the worst of it. And I’ll be heading back to bed again soon.

I usually get migraines when my neck is badly out of alignment, but this time I would have sworn it was fine, until I noticed the unmistakeable knot near the top. Somehow, something I’ve done has put it out and, for the life of me, I’ve no idea what. This is the third migraine in as many weeks. The other 2 happened while we were working on the garden, which is unsurprising since I do all sorts of silly things to my back and neck when I’m engrossed in a job like that. The only thing I can think of this time is that I started knitting again a couple of nights ago and noticed soreness in my right shoulder last night. So maybe it’s a KRI - knitting related injury.

Whatever it is, it sucks. I have stuff to do today and a lot of it’s not going to get done because I can’t drive while my head’s like this. My depth perception is too wonky and it’s just too scary to be hurtling down the highway in close proximity to other large metal objects when you can’t really tell how far away they are. I’m also too sensitive to light, sound and smell to cope with shopping centres on days like today. So I’m a home bound girl for the day and a bed bound girl for a little while now.
